China and India have called on Russia and Ukraine to end hostilities

NEW YORK (Realist English). China and India have called for a negotiated end to the conflict in the Ukraine under the auspices of the UN.

“China supports all efforts conducive to the peaceful resolution of the Ukraine crisis. The pressing priority is to facilitate talks for peace.” The fundamental solution is to address the legitimate security concerns of all parties and build a balanced, effective and sustainable security architecture,” said Wang Yi who met at the UN headquarters with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba.

Wang Yi called on Russia and Ukraine to ‘keep the crisis from spilling over’ and from affecting developing countries. Beijing speaks of “the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries”, “observing the principles of the UN Charter”.

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar was no less categorical:

“As the Ukraine conflict continues to rage, we are often asked whose side we are on. Our answer, each time, is straight and honest – India is on the side of peace and will remain firmly there. We are on the side that calls for dialogue and diplomacy as the only way out.”

According to him, “the nuclear issue is of particular concern.” Jaishankar also drew attention to the problem of global food and fuel shortages caused by the Ukrainian crisis. In particular, the Indian diplomat referred to the exchange of views between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which Modi stressed that “today’s era is not of war.”
