LONDON (Realist English). British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is being urged to resign due to violation of quarantine bans in December 2020.
Johnson apologized profoundly, answering questions from members of the House of Commons about the parties held at his residence during the lockdown. But the prime minister did not plead guilty to knowingly violating the orders of his own cabinet. According to him, he did not know that he was violating quarantine rules.
The leader of the Labor Party, Keir Starmer, called Johnson’s words absurd and insulting.
Starmer urged Conservative MPs to take the opportunity to get rid of Johnson and “bring decency, honesty and integrity back” into British politics.
The senior Tory MP Mark Harper became the latest backbencher to call for Johnson to go, after hearing his apology, saying: “I no longer think he is worthy of the great office that he holds.”
On December 18, 2020, in the midst of a winter lockdown in the UK, a Christmas party was held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Downing Street. This happened just two days after the toughest restrictive measures were introduced in London to combat the coronavirus.
