MOSCOW (Realist English). Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin made a veiled threat to Armenia, condemning the involvement of the European Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in the settlement process between Yerevan and Baku.
“Before appealing to the European Parliament and involving this body in solving some issues, it is necessary to answer: in general, with the participation of the European Parliament, PACE, have any acute issue or conflict situation ever been resolved? There is no such example… Therefore, if we want to involve the European Parliament and PACE, we must think 10 times and weigh how this can end on the example of the same Ukraine, Yugoslavia, and other countries. Those who want peace, who want a settlement of the situation, should not just stay away from these quasi–parliaments – both PACE and the European Parliament – but clearly understand that their involvement will aggravate the situation, create more and more new problems,” the head of the lower house of the Russian parliament said, speaking at a meeting with the speaker of the Baku Milli Majlis (Parliament) Sahiba Gafarova.
Volodin believes that “those who make statements in the direction of European institutions” may “simply lose the country.”
The editor-in-chief of the Realist News Agency, Sarkis Tsaturyan, disagreed with Volodin’s theses, citing inconsistencies in the Kremlin’s policy in the South Caucasus:
“Volodin’s threatening Armenia is unacceptable. Civilized countries communicate with each other not by threats of attack, but by business proposals.
Armenia haв existed more than four thousand years before Russia came to the Caucasus and will always exist: not thanks to any other country, but thanks to God and the courage of her soldiers
No one has the right to reproach Yerevan for coordinating the EU mission on the line of contact with the Baku gangs.
Wasn’t it the Kremlin that brought the Turkish (still a NATO country) army to the Caucasus in 2020, agreeing to the occupation of Armenian lands by the Turks and their accomplices? Now the Turkish army is located several dozen kilometers from Dagestan. Have you forgotten? I can remind you a lot of other things, but I won’t. I don’t see any point.
At the same time, I am grateful to Volodin for his frankness. He once again warned the ruling class of Armenia that it is necessary to prepare for a full-scale war, and not to play friendship with Turkish fascists. A predator is not a friend to the prey!”.
