WASHINGTON (Realist English). US President Donald Trump warned that Iran would face military consequences “at a level never seen before” if it attempts to mine the Strait of Hormuz, as tensions continued to escalate on the eleventh day of the war between the two countries.
The warning came amid reports of additional air strikes on Tehran and air raid alerts in Qatar late Tuesday.
Trump also said the US military had “completely destroyed” ten Iranian vessels allegedly capable of laying naval mines in the strategic waterway, though the ships were described as inactive.
Earlier in the day, confusion emerged over whether the US Navy had escorted a cargo tanker through the Strait of Hormuz. US Energy Secretary Chris Wright initially suggested in a social media post that an American naval escort had taken place, but the message was later deleted.
Iranian officials rejected the claim, saying US forces had not approached the waterway.
“They didn’t dare come near the strait. Maybe such an operation happened on PlayStation,” Iranian representatives said, dismissing the reports.
