Apple refreshes product line: thinner iPhones, smarter Watches, and more powerful AirPods

CUPERTINO (Realist English). Apple introduced a raft of devices at its September 9 product event, led by the new iPhone Air, the company’s thinnest and lightest iPhone, alongside iPhone 17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3, and AirPods Pro 3. Pre-orders begin this week, with retail availability slated for September 19.

Apple said the 0.22-inch, 0.36-lb iPhone Air runs on the A19 Pro chip and a new N1 networking chip (Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread) plus Apple’s C1X modem to improve connectivity without sacrificing battery life. The model uses Ceramic Shield 2 front and back and a 6.5-inch display Apple claims is more scratch-resistant. To achieve the thin profile, the Air is eSIM-only and carries a single 48 MP rear camera with integrated 2x optical zoom; the 4K/HDR front camera supports Center Stage and dual-capture video. The phone ships in black, white, gold and sky blue, starting at $1,000.

The iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max move to an aluminum frame, adopt vapor-chamber cooling, and keep Ceramic Shield 2 with up to 3,000-nit peak brightness on ProMotion displays. Apple pairs the A19 Pro with 12 GB RAM and the N1 chip (Wi-Fi 7/Bluetooth 6/Thread). Apple touts longer battery life (no figure) and faster charging via a new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter. Cameras step up to three 48 MP lenses on the back with up to 8x optical and 40x digital zoom; the front is 18 MP with Center Stage. Video adds ProRes RAW, Log 2 and genlock. Pricing: $1,100 (17 Pro) and $1,200 (17 Pro Max) with storage up to 2 TB.

The standard iPhone 17 grows to a 6.3-inch display with ProMotion and 3,000-nit peak brightness, uses the A19 (16-core Neural Engine), and adds Adaptive Power Mode for longer runtime. Rear cameras are 48 MP main + 12 MP telephoto; the front camera now supports 4K/HDR, a much wider field of view and Center Stage, plus dual-capture. Starts at $800 (256 GB) in black, lavender, mist blue, sage and white.

On wearables, the Apple Watch Series 11 is thinner, adds 5G, and introduces hypertension alerts (pending FDA clearance) and a sleep score. Apple claims 24 hours between charges and stronger glass on aluminum models; titanium retains higher scratch/crack resistance. Price: $400.

The rugged Apple Watch Ultra 3 brings the largest Apple Watch display yet, satellite connectivity for messaging and SOS off-grid, 5G, hypertension alerts and sleep score. Battery life is rated up to 42 hours (or 72 hours in low-power mode). Price: $800.

AirPods Pro 3 add live language translation (Apple Intelligence), improved active noise cancellation, IP57 water/sweat resistance, heart-rate tracking synced to the Health app, new ear tips (five sizes) and longer battery life (up to 8 hours). Price: $250; pre-orders open now, in stores September 19.

Apple framed the cycle around durability (Ceramic Shield 2), connectivity (Wi-Fi 7/Bluetooth 6/Thread), camera upgrades for the Pro phones, and health features for Watch, while pushing eSIM-only models at the high end and introducing on-device translation through its earbuds.
