According to the assessment of American parliamentarians, the Russian forces entrusted with the peacekeeping mission have failed in their duties.

WASHINGTON (Realist English). The United States should take steps to restore the free flow of humanitarian goods and essential goods. This is stated in a joint letter from senators Robert Menendez and Jack Reed, which is addressed to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

“The blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh has devastating consequences for the already vulnerable region, which is still recovering from the consequences of the Azerbaijani attack in 2020. Despite the statements that the blockade is carried out by “eco-protesters”, the responsibility lies with the Aliyev regime of Azerbaijan. Moreover, the Russian forces entrusted with the peacekeeping mission have definitely failed in their duties.

The United States cannot stand by while the Aliyev regime mercilessly threatens the lives of the citizens of Nagorno-Karabakh, and must hold Azerbaijan accountable for depriving the civilian population of access to food and basic necessities.

We welcome the recognition by the official representative of the US State Department of Azerbaijan’s responsibility for this blockade, but at the same time, the US should take steps to restore the free flow of humanitarian goods and essential goods for the besieged population.

We must support organizations that are working to provide assistance, and we must work with our like-minded partners across Europe, who have also expressed concern about Baku’s actions to put pressure on the Aliyev regime to end this unacceptable blockade,” the American parliamentarians urged.

Earlier, the US Embassy in Yerevan called for the immediate resumption of ground communication between Artsakh and Armenia along the Stepanakert-Goris highway, which has been blocked by the gangs of Baku fascists since December 12.

In turn, the US Ambassador to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Michael Carpenter said that the closure of the highway “creates a serious humanitarian situation”. The diplomat thanked the International Committee of the Red Cross for providing “critical assistance”, demanding that the Russian Federation and the Baku gangs “immediately restore the access”.
