DAMASCUS (Realist English). The Committee for Human Rights and Public Freedoms of the Syrian Bar Association’s Suwayda branch has issued a strongly worded statement condemning recent attacks against the Druze community in southern Syria. The lawyers claim the violence represents a breach of both Syrian national law and international human rights standards.

“We are watching with deep concern and regret the military assaults and systematic violence targeting the Druze minority,” the statement reads. “These acts, accompanied by a media campaign aimed at undermining the community’s unity and national identity, have resulted in the deaths of innocent civilians and severely destabilized the region.”

The committee is calling for an independent and impartial investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible for the violence. It also demands that affected families receive compensation and that concrete measures be taken to prevent future incidents.

“Any persecution based on religious or sectarian identity is a direct violation of the principle of equality and the foundational values of a civil state,” the statement adds.

The lawyers urged the Syrian government to fulfill its obligations to protect all citizens and uphold the principles of justice, freedom, and human dignity as enshrined in both Syrian constitutional law and international conventions to which the Syrian Arab Republic is a signatory.
