YEREVAN (Realist English). The idea of a Great Armenia should remain the central national aspiration of the Armenian people, historian Yuri Sargsyan said during a livestream hosted by the Ashkharazhokhov movement as part of its ongoing project, Armenian Ideology.
“Great Armenia is not an abstraction — it is our historical inheritance. It is the land where the Armenian people first emerged,” Sargsyan declared. He likened the nation’s purpose to the natural goals of an individual: the pursuit of family, labor, and knowledge. “Just as a person is drawn to fulfillment, a nation must strive for its highest form of wholeness — historical rebirth.”
The livestream was part of a wider effort by Ashkharazhokhov to formulate a national ideological framework rooted in Armenian history, philosophy, and cultural memory. The Armenian Ideology project features dialogues with historians, philosophers, military thinkers, and artists to help establish a strategic narrative for the 21st century.
According to the organizers, the project seeks not merely to commemorate the past but to reintroduce the idea of Armenia as a full-scale historical subject — one with sovereign purpose and national clarity. In this context, the concept of Great Armenia is presented not as nostalgia, but as a long-term goal of civilizational restoration.
“May the Creator God strengthen us on the path to the national dream — for the sake of Armenia and all Armenians,” Sargsyan concluded.
In contrast to many nations drifting toward post-national uncertainty, he argued, Armenians are working to articulate a unifying vision rooted in history and justice. “When a people has historical direction and a sense of righteousness,” he added, “even the greatest of goals becomes a matter of time.”
