Russia deploys AI to monitor national projects and government programs

MOSCOW (Realist English). The Russian government has introduced artificial intelligence into its nationwide system for monitoring and managing state programs and national projects, officials announced this week.

The AI model processes all indicators and activities in real time, comparing them with the development goals set by President Vladimir Putin. The project is overseen by Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of the Government Staff Dmitry Grigorenko.

According to the government, the system can identify both direct and hidden links between projects, helping to design more effective strategies for achieving national targets. For example, housing affordability depends not only on construction volumes and prices, but also on the financial capacity of citizens and support measures for buyers. The AI model can map such interdependencies across different programs.

Grigorenko said the technology already achieves 96% accuracy in predicting risks of non-compliance, allowing officials to intervene before deadlines are missed. “Our task is not to record failures after the fact, but to ensure everything is executed on time,” he told reporters.

The AI system also highlights risks where delays in one program may derail others. However, Grigorenko emphasized that final decisions remain with government officials: “Artificial intelligence does not replace people. It is a tool that simplifies their work.”

The new technology dramatically reduces the time required for analysis. While manual review of half a million potential interconnections would take 76 experts from 38 sectors about four years, the AI system can complete the same task in one day, analyzing more than 1,000 variants per minute.

So far, the model has identified over 8,000 new interconnections between indicators and projects. These findings are sent to federal agencies for verification and, if necessary, forwarded to the Project Management Center of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) for further study.

Officials say the AI system is designed to accelerate decision-making and improve the efficiency of state administration, while keeping ultimate responsibility in human hands.
