Putin appoints Vitaly Korolyov as acting governor of Tver region

MOSCOW (Realist English). Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Vitaly Korolyov as acting governor of the Tver region, according to a presidential decree signed on Tuesday.

The appointment followed a working meeting in the Kremlin, where Putin offered Korolyov the position, describing the Tver region as “one of the country’s central and historically significant territories” requiring close attention to economic development and citizens’ quality of life.

“You serve as deputy head of one of the country’s major federal agencies — the Antimonopoly Service, which operates across all sectors of the economy and all regions of Russia. You have achieved good results there,” Putin said. “But I would like to invite you to test your strength in a regional role and lead the Tver region.”

Korolyov expressed gratitude for the president’s trust and outlined his main priorities:

  • ensuring a stable heating supply and readiness for the winter season;
  • providing support for families of participants in the special military operation;
  • expanding the region’s economic potential;
  • contributing to the high-speed railway project that will pass through the Tver region.

“My top priority will be improving people’s quality of life. In public service, I have always followed your instructions unconditionally — and I will continue to do so,” Korolyov said.

Putin wished him success and advised the new acting governor to rely on local talent and expertise.

“You should lean on people who know the region, work there, live there, and consider it their home,” the president noted.

Korolyov’s appointment continues the trend toward “federalization” of regional governance, in which federal-level officials are taking leadership roles in Russia’s regions. For the Tver region, located at the intersection of major transport routes, the change signals a new phase of development, with a focus on infrastructure, energy, and social stability.
