KABUL (Realist English). The situation in Afghanistan cannot be settled according to the recipes of the international or regional community, political analyst Andrei Serenko reports, citing one of the influential Afghan politicians who held major posts in the leadership of Afghanistan from 2002 to 2021.
“Undoubtedly, it will be another platform for advertising the Taliban* and, possibly, for self-promotion of individual countries. But for a practical, real settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, this wonderful forum is useless,” he said, commenting on the Tashkent conference on the Afghan settlement.
According to the Afghan politician, the world and the regional community were unable to work out a formula for a “real Afghan settlement”, so further attempts to tread on the same political field with previous approaches are doomed to failure.
“Afghanistan needs an Afghan approach to the problem of the settlement. Everything else is meaningless,” the Afghan politician is sure.
On August 15, 2021, after the fall of Kabul, the Taliban* established its authority in Afghanistan. But the Taliban has so far failed to establish full control over Afghan territory. The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan operates in Panjshir province. It is a military—political association in Afghanistan created in July – August 2021 during the Taliban offensive and consisting of former members of the Northern Alliance and other opponents of the Islamist Taliban movement. After the fall of Kabul, this is the main organized resistance to the Taliban in the country.
The Taliban movement* is recognized in Russia as a terrorist organization, its activities in the country are prohibited. But the Kremlin maintains contacts with Taliban leaders.
