Confrontation of imperialisms is at the heart of the conflict in the Ukraine — Pope

The head of the Catholic Church, Francis, believes that the causes of the conflict should not be simplified. In his opinion, in the Ukraine we see a confrontation of imperialisms.

VATICAN (Realist English). Details of the meeting of Pope Francis with 19 Jesuits of the Society of Jesus of the “Russian region”, which took place during the visit of the Holy Father to Kazakhstan on September 15, have become known.

The main topic of the conversation was the armed conflict on the territory of the former Ukraine. The Pope stressed that it is a mistake to consider what is happening only as a conflict between Russia and the Ukraine.

“I think it’s a mistake to think it’s a cowboy movie where there are good guys and bad guys,” noted Pope Francis, adding that he has no doubt that “this is a world war,” he pointed out. “Ordinary people are the real victims who pay for the follies of war with their own skin.”

He shared his opinion about the reasons why the war could not be avoided. If you look at the dynamics of the conflict, then there are “international factors” that provoked this conflict to a certain extent, in particular, the actions of NATO, which did not take into account the imperial thinking of the Russians. The head of the Catholic Church stressed that the causes of the conflict cannot be simplified:

“I see imperialisms in conflict,” he affirmed. “And, when they feel threatened and in decay, imperialisms react by thinking that the solution is to start a war to remake themselves, and also to sell and test weapons.”

It seems that a geopolitical insight has descended on the Pontiff along with the realization that the EU economy is sinking in the conflict. And across the ocean, where the influence of the Vatican is modest, on the contrary, they grow in wealth due to the shrinking of Europe. Too bold a hint at the master of the processes.

It’s a signal that the old European aristocracy sense the approach of a white fluffy animal. In addition, this kind of rhetoric from such a statuesque person testifies to the profound transformations of European identity.

Strong right-wing leaders in Hungary, and now in Italy, will certainly cause similar special effects in other EU countries, where, against the backgdrop of impoverishment of society, people with a right-wing agenda will come to power in most cases. Very reminiscent of the 30s of the XX century.

The Vatican is catching its fish in the world reconstruction. Therefore, its rhetoric may not coincide with the line of the Washington regional committee. However, such statements are not made on their own initiative. The Catholic Church is trying to navigate between a new crusade and a riot of the hungry masses.
