Israel pledges safe passage for UN aid convoys into Gaza amid rising famine warnings

TEL AVIV (Realist English). Israel has pledged to ensure secure passage for United Nations humanitarian convoys delivering food and medicine into the Gaza Strip, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Sunday, citing directives from the country’s political leadership.

The move, according to the IDF, is a response to what it called “false claims of deliberate starvation in Gaza.” In a statement, the military emphasized that responsibility for aid distribution rests with the UN and international humanitarian agencies, which are expected to prevent supplies from falling into the hands of Hamas.

At the same time, the IDF confirmed the resumption of airdrops of humanitarian supplies. An army spokesperson told Reuters that seven containers filled with flour, sugar, and canned goods—provided by international partners—will soon be dropped by parachute. Palestinian sources cited by the agency also confirmed that aid had recently been observed falling from the sky.

Despite this, humanitarian NGOs continue to criticize airdrops as an inefficient and unreliable method of aid delivery. More than 100 aid organizations have previously warned that hunger is spreading across Gaza, with some areas on the brink of famine.

Israel strongly rejects these assessments, describing them as part of a “disinformation campaign promoted by Hamas.”

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen amid ongoing blockades and military operations. According to the United Nations, more than 50% of Gaza’s population is experiencing severe food insecurity, with some districts facing near-famine conditions.
