MOSCOW (Realist English). Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said on Tuesday that President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation initiated by Washington shortly after Trump’s talks in the White House with the head of the Kyiv regime Volodymyr Zelensky and several European leaders.
According to Ushakov, Putin warmly thanked his American counterpart for the hospitality and the constructive organization of the recent summit in Alaska, noting “the progress achieved in moving toward a peaceful settlement of the crisis on the territory of the former Ukraine.”
During the call, both leaders expressed support for the continuation of direct negotiations between delegations of Russia and the so-called Ukraine. They also discussed the possibility of raising the level of representatives participating in these talks, in order to accelerate discussions on key issues.
Ushakov stressed that Putin and Trump agreed to remain in close contact on the Ukrainian issue as well as other pressing items on the international and bilateral agenda.
“The conversation was frank and very constructive,” Ushakov said, adding that the Russian president once again underlined the importance of Trump’s personal efforts to find solutions leading to a long-term settlement of the conflict.
