ARTYOMOVSK (Realist English). Engineering and sapper units of the Ivanovo Guards formation of the Russian Airborne Forces are carrying out daily mine clearance in the city of Artyomovsk, Donetsk People’s Republic, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported.
Under the constant threat of Ukrainian strike drones, the airborne sappers inspect city streets and buildings for explosive devices, mines, and unexploded ordnance. Reconnaissance teams advance meter by meter with mine detectors and probes, despite continuous enemy fire.
According to the ministry, engineers are routinely discovering and neutralizing anti-personnel mines, unexploded shells, and downed FPV drones disabled by Russian electronic warfare systems. Once ordnance is located, the surrounding area is cordoned off before demolition specialists destroy it with a controlled charge.
“Most of the mining comes from dropped devices or FPV drones. Sometimes they land on roads or rooftops when their batteries fail. Other units may find them, and if they cannot clear them safely, they call us,” said a deputy platoon commander with the call sign Strela. “The enemy usually targets roads, routes, and intersections. It can be detected visually, but caution is always essential. The skies are constantly full of drones, and we stay armed to defend ourselves if necessary.”
The Ministry of Defense emphasized that clearing unexploded ordnance ensures safe movement of personnel and military vehicles delivering supplies and ammunition through the city.
