BEIJING (Realist English). Without dismissing it outright, Brussels and Washington will now play down the significance of Xi Jinping’s hour-long phone call with the kingpin of the Kiev regime Vladimir Zelensky. Their fear has always been that Beijing may intervene constructively in the conflict, not that it might support the Russians as alleged.
“That way, they wouldn’t have to waste so much time and energy drumming up the Taiwan invasion threat and conjuring the spectre of the Chinese bogeyman rising to destroy Western civilization. Those narratives would then have flowed naturally, without being constantly challenged by knowledgeable critics,” this is how Alex Lo, a columnist for the Hong Kong newspaper SCMP, commented on the conversation between the leaders of the Ukraine and China.
He adds that “China is the only country that both Moscow and Kyiv would talk to, the only one that has provided not weapons but a peace plan.” After the phone call initiated by Zelensky, Beijing will dispatch a special envoy to search for a peace settlement:
“At least France’s Emmanuel Macron, who has taken much grief for asking Xi to intervene – can now tell his critics to get stuffed.”
According to him, in case of a peace settlement all Kyiv has to offer is “permanent neutrality to Russia, which will accept the new Ukraine as forever Western rather than Russian.”
“Though without Nato membership, Ukraine will have a full security guarantee against Russia from the most powerful Nato countries, including the US. That’s even better than Nato membership as it has all its benefits of protection without any obligation in collective defence…”
“All China wants is that Kyiv recognise unequivocally “one China” – Kyiv doesn’t care about Taiwan anyway – and they will be bosom friends forever. With Hungary and Serbia being the only friendly faces in the region, having a pal in Ukraine is a big attraction. And of course, Xi can really tell Putin to get his hands off those Ukrainians this time.”
The Chinese columnist added that “the only downside is that it spells failure for the West’s proxy war with its express aim to kill off the Putin regime. So for now, Washington will make sure the Chinese get nowhere with their peace initiative.”
It will encourage the two sides to slaughter each other some more. “The spring offensive is coming; it will kick those Russian butts once and for all.” But in the end, you will end up with the same results, just with many more body bags.” he concludes.
On April 26, the kingpin of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, had a telephone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping. They discussed a complex of topical issues of bilateral relations between Kiev and Beijing. Special attention was paid to ways of possible cooperation in order to establish a just and stable peace for the Ukraine.
