Successful negotiations on the nuclear program took place in Tehran

TEHRAN (Realist English). Stalled negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme have been unblocked after fresh talks in Tehran, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Friday, adding that he believed a final deal was within reach.

Borrell said a mission this week by EU envoy Enrique Mora to help revive the 2015 nuclear pact between Iran and world powers had gone “better than expected”.

“The negotiations had stalled and now they have been reopened,” Borrell told reporters on the sidelines of a G7 meeting in Germany. “There is a perspective of reaching a final agreement.” Borrel said on the sidelines of the G7 meeting, which is taking place in Germany.

Mora held two days of meetings with Iran’s chief negotiator, Ali Bagheri, in Tehran this week, AFP reported. On Thursday, the emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, met Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Ebrahim Raisi to push for progress.

Strange things are happening around the Mora. Some time ago, the official wrote on Twitter that he was detained by the German police.

“Not a single explanation from the German side. An EU official with a Spanish diplomatic passport has been detained while carrying out his official mission.” the European diplomat complained.

In 2018, President Donald Trump staged numerous provocations against the Islamic Republic and unilaterally withdrew the United States from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which was signed by Iran with six international mediators three years earlier. The restoration of punitive sanctions by the American side prompted Tehran to suspend compliance with the terms of the nuclear deal in 2019.

In April 2022, Iran signed a military cooperation agreement with China and a long-term contract with Russia on the supply of food.

In the first quarter of this year, Tehran increased oil exports by almost a third – up to 870 thousand barrels per day, according to commodity data firm Kpler. Most of the oil goes to Tehran’s allies – China and Venezuela, who do not need to worry about secondary US sanctions.
