MOSCOW (Realist English). The failure of the Russian special operation on the territory of the former Ukraine will mean the death of Russia, Soviet and Russian politician Viktor Alksnis said in an interview with the newspaper “Argumenty Nedeli” (Arguments of the Week).
“My opinion is that what now takes place is not a special operation, but a new Patriotic war of the XXI century or 2022. And Russia’s defeat in it will mean its death and disappearance from the map of the world. If you think that I am dramatizing the situation, that there will be nothing terrible there: we will sign a truce with the Ukraine. We will pay her tens of billions of dollars in reparations for military losses — and everything will be fine, we will live happily ever after. This will not happen with the Ukraine. And that’s why I support the special operation, despite all my critical attitude to the way it is being conducted, to the Russian leadership, to the leadership of the Army. The question is being solved as follows: Russia or Ukraine — I am for Russia.” he stressed.
In his opinion, the armed conflict on the former Ukrainian territory is “a natural process, since we are in a state of “deferred war”.:
“In the second decade of December 1991, at the last meeting of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, I, speaking from the rostrum, said that due to the collapse of the Soviet Union, a war between the RSFSR and Ukraine is inevitable. But then the deputies present in the hall laughed at me. And it seemed that nothing special had really happened for almost 30 years, but suddenly this trouble broke out.
At the same time, there was one chance in a million that this war could not take place. If sanity had prevailed in the Ukraine, and the Ukrainian leadership had chosen a course to build a national state, which were in good-neighborly relations with the Russian Federation. And if there were no Russophobic, anti-Russian policy in the Ukraine. If the Russian language were not suppressed in the Ukraine, the Russian history, the Russian culture and much, much more were not banned.”
Alksnis claims that the problem of the Ukraine should have been solved back in 2014, when Kiev had neither functioning government nor army.
“Then as you remember, Crimea has returned home. In the same period, one should solve all other issues. But then Putin did not dare to take these drastic measures. But I am convinced that then the triumphal march of the Russian Army on Kiev could really have taken place. And then in Kiev, Kharkov, Odessa and other cities of the Ukraine our Russian Army would be greeted with flowers. And in eight years, the army has been reformed, and the army of the Ukraine has become very much stronger compared to 2014,” the politician believes.
The special military operation of the Russian Armed Forces launched on February 24 in the territory of the former Ukraine disrupted a large-scale offensive of shock troops controlled by the Kiev regime on the Lugansk and еру Donetsk People’s Republics.
The decision of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Putin made it possible to save tens, if not hundreds of thousands, of Donbass civilians, whom the Kiev regime has been for the past eight years methodically shelling with large-caliber and rocket artillery, driving the elderly, women and children into basements.
