BRUSSELS (Realist English). The underground gas storage facilities of the European Union are already 80% full, two months ahead of schedule, said the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
“At the EU level, we are diversifying sources, saving energy and preserving it. Our gas storage facility is already 80% full.” she wrote on Twitter.
The head of the European Commission added that in order to reduce dependence on Russian fossil fuels, the European Union needs renewable energy sources. That is why the commitments made to date make it possible to meet a third of the EU’s offshore wind energy targets by 2030.
The European Union planned to fill its underground gas storage facilities by 80% by November 1 amid possible interruptions in gas supplies from Russia.
France has already filled its gas storage facilities by more than 90% and has a good chance of meeting the government’s goal of 100% occupancy by November. And Germany, according to the latest data, has filled its gas storage facilities by more than 80%.
