Zelensky: Germany delays Ukraine’s accession to EU

Ukraine's President blamed the German authorities for the Ukrainian crisis, and Berlin's unwillingness to accept his country into the EU he called "stones in the construction of a new wall in Europe."

KIEV (Realist English). President of the Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky said that Germany is making efforts to build a new wall in Europe when it slows down Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.

Zelensky stressed that Berlin, which previously opposed the rapid integration of the Ukraine with the Western world, bears part of the responsibility for the crisis in his country. According to him, in Germany, many players do not want to limit Russia as the situation requires.

“When we asked you what the Ukraine should do to become a member of NATO, we heard in response — there is no such decision on the table and there will not be. You are also delaying the issue of the Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. This is politics for you. But in fact, these are stones, stones for a new wall dividing Europe,” he said, speaking to deputies of the German Bundestag.

Zelensky, however, stressed that there are politicians in Germany who understand what is going on.

In early March, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the accession of Georgia, Moldova and the Ukraine to the European Union is not an issue that should be raised now.
