Azerbaijani MP: Russia’s defeat in the Ukraine would be beneficial for Baku

If Russia falls, the peacekeepers in Karabakh will automatically leave the territory of Azerbaijan, and we will have the opportunity to talk and discuss with the Armenians living there their future, deputy of the Baku Minisultanate Agil Abbas said.

BAKU (Realist English). The failure of the Russian special operation in the Ukraine is beneficial to the regime in Baku, said Deputy of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan Agil Abbas in an interview Gündəm.az.

“If Russia falls, the peacekeepers in Karabakh will automatically leave the territory of Azerbaijan, and we will have the opportunity to talk and discuss with the Armenians living there their future. They will have a choice either to get Azerbaijani citizenship and live there as humans, or to leave. Yes, Azerbaijan has agreed to the deployment of the Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh, and we cannot unilaterally violate this agreement. I feel sorry for the Russian peacekeepers. They build houses for Armenians, cultivate the land, grow fruits and vegetables for them. Regardless of whether Russia wins or loses, the Azerbaijani flag will fly in Khankendi. Let no one doubt it. In any case, Russia will lose in the Ukraine, and this is beneficial to Azerbaijan.” the deputy of the Baku Minisultanate stressed.

Abbas deemed the decision of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of Russia Vladimir Putin to launch a special military operation in Ukraine “wrong”, and also complained about the insufficient US assistance to the Aliyev regime.

“The United States is providing billions of dollars’ worth of aid and weapons to the Ukraine. What have they done for Azerbaijan? They unequivocally support the territorial integrity of the Ukraine and Georgia, and when it comes to Azerbaijan, they say that it is necessary to negotiate with a handful of Armenians in Karabakh and grant them status.”

On April 3, British human rights activists in a collective letter noted that in the autumn of 2020, the aggression of the Baku dictator forced the Republic of Armenia to withdraw its armed forces from the region, “leaving the Armenians completely dependent on 2 thousand Russian peacekeepers”:

“Since then, Azerbaijan has refused to release more than 70 Armenian prisoners of war, it conducts unfair and perverse show trials that violate basic human rights. Azerbaijani forces have repeatedly attacked Armenian troops and civilians in Nagorno-Karabakh, and even Armenia proper. Azerbaijani troops also destroyed and desecrated several Armenian churches and cemeteries, announcing plans to erase Armenian inscriptions from sites of Armenian cultural heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh.”

On February 22, in the Kremlin, Russian leader Vladimir Putin and the leader of the Baku kleptocracy, Ilham Aliyev, signed a declaration on allied cooperation between the two countries. However, the new status of bilateral relations does not prevent the politicians of the mini-sultanate from making anti-Russian statements. This suggests that Baku does not consider Russia a real ally and pursues an openly hostile policy to Moscow.
