Americans will perceive Putin’s victory in the Ukraine as Biden’s and the Democratic Party defeat

Joe Biden's reputation has suffered after the chaotic withdrawal of the American troops from Afghanistan. As a result, many Americans have an idea of the head of the White House as a weak and a short-sighted politician. If Biden is going to run for re-election in 2024, then he cannot afford to allow Putin to win in the Ukraine, says Anna Brodsky-Krotkina, head of the Slavistics program at Washington and Lee University.

WASHINGTON (Realist English). The conflict in the Ukraine is a serious challenge for Joseph Biden and the Democratic Party, notes Anna Brodsky-Krotkina, Head of the Slavic Studies Program at Washington and Lee University in Virginia in an article for the Ukrainian edition zn.ua.

She reminded that it was “with the connivance of the Democratic Party” with Barack Obama at the head of the United States and Biden as vice president that Russia annexed Crimea and was practically not punished.

“And in the recent past, Biden’s reputation suffered after the chaotic withdrawal of the American troops from Afghanistan. As a result, many Americans have an idea of Biden as a weak and a short—sighted politician,” she added.

According to polls, 53% of Americans doubt that Biden is mentally fit to serve as President of the United States, and 62% believe that he is too old for this role. “At the same time, age does not interfere with the popularity of either Trump or Bernie Sanders, who found themselves today together with Mike Pence in the top three politicians with the highest approval rating,” the American expert added.

In her opinion, the success of the Russian military special operation in the Ukraine will be perceived by US citizens as a defeat of the policy of the Democratic Party and will consolidate the Americans’ idea of Biden as a weakling, unable to be a worthy leader of a great power.

According to a survey by The Harris Poll, 67% of Americans believe that neither Europe nor the United States are showing sufficient resistance to Russia’s actions in the Ukraine and should punish the Russian Federation with more effective sanctions.

The head of the Slavistics program at Washington and Lee University believes that if Biden is going to run for re-election in 2024, then in this case he cannot afford Putin’s win in the Ukraine:

“With a broad support of voters, Biden and his party, if they intend to remain at the helm, should tighten sanctions, transfer all necessary weapons to the Ukraine and do everything possible for her victory over Russia.”
