The UK has always played the role of the Anglo—Saxon bandogge: political scientist Vladimir Vasiliev

The UK has always had its historical memory and desire to play the role of a global power. The Second World War led to the decline of the British Empire. Today, it is again trying to rise to this level, to rule the world together with the United States, says Vladimir Vasiliev, chief researcher at the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

MOSCOW (Realist English). Britain has always played the role of a chain dog of the Anglo-Saxons, its contribution to achieving victory over nazi Germany is not so great, political scientist Vladimir Vasiliev, chief researcher at the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences, stressed in an interview with the newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda.

“The Allied landing in Normandy itself was primarily an operation of American troops. And in general, the UK has not really shown itself, especially in the land theater. Nevertheless, the victory in the Second World War was called in the West the victory of the Anglo-Saxon world. And take? For example, Churchill’s Fulton speech, which marked the beginning of the Cold War. And his plan “The Unthinkable”, which provided for a military campaign of the Anglo-Saxons against the USSR immediately after the end of World War II. Churchill was really ready to start a war against the USSR in order to restore Britain’s lost dominance,” he reminded.

Vasiliev notes that the cunning and cynicism of the Anglo-Saxon policy towards Russia has always manifested themselves:

“By pushing aside the USSR, they, I repeat, thereby magnify their own role and significance, which we should never forget. Moreover, they themselves constantly remind of this. As an example of this, the adoption in June 2021 of the Atlantic Charter, which was proclaimed as a new form of the revived union of the United States and Great Britain, that left the European Union. But the main thing, perhaps, is something else: recently, the role of Britain has begun to increase dramatically in this union. The creation of a new AUKUS block (UK, Australia, USA) is another proof of this.”

According to the political scientist, the UK “has always had its historical memory and desire to play the role of a global power”:

“The Second World War led to the decline of the British Empire. Today, it is again trying to rise to this level, to rule the world together with the United States. Hence not only the neglect of history, but also the desire to rewrite it. That’s why London canceled the traditional May event in the memory of those who died in World War II.”
