Khamenei threatened Erdoğan: Iran will not allow the blocking of the border with Armenia

If a policy to block the border between Iran and Armenia is pursued, Tehran will oppose this, since this border is a communication route that is thousands of years old, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned the Turkish president.

TEHRAN (Realist English). Iran’s spiritual leader Ali Khamenei expressed a principled position on the inadmissibility of blocking the border with Armenia during talks with the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Tehran on July 19.

“If there is a policy of blocking the border between Iran and Armenia, the Islamic Republic will oppose this, since this border is a communication route that is thousands of years old,” the Tasnim agency quotes Rahbar.

In addition, Ayatollah Khamenei called it vitally important to preserve the territorial integrity of Syria.

“Any military operation in northern Syria will damage Turkey, Syria and the region, but will benefit the terrorists,” the supreme leader of Iran warned.

The Iranian side consistently makes statements about its commitment to the territorial integrity of states, and also declares the unacceptability of attempts to change the geopolitical situation in the region.

The Baku regime has repeatedly stated the need to develop the controversial Zangezur corridor, as the country expands its cargo and energy transit capabilities.

The problems are connected with its location — the Zangezur corridor would give the Baku regime unhindered access to the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic without Armenian checkpoints, through the Syunik region of Armenia. In a broader sense, it would create a geopolitical corridor that would connect Turkey with the rest of the Turkic world, thereby uniting it. This concept is increasingly promoted by Baku and Ankara after the end of the Nagorno-Karabakh war in 2020.

From September 27 to November 9, 2020, using the tacit consent of the Kremlin, the armed forces of Turkey and Azerbaijan attacked Artsakh and Armenia with the support of international mercenary terrorists from Syria, Libya and Afghanistan. Since then, Baku and Ankara have continued their occupation policy on Armenian lands, physically destroying Armenian cultural heritage — churches, khachkars, museums and all kinds of mentions of Armenians on stone or on paper.
