PHILADELPHIA (Realist English). US President Joseph Biden told Americans that “equality and democracy are under assault” and called on compatriots to fight for the “soul of this country.” The head of the White House said this while speaking at Independence Hall in Philadelphia.
“For a long time, we’ve told ourselves that American democracy is guaranteed, but it’s not. We have to defend it, protect it, stand up for it — each and every one of us.” he said.
The American leader’s speech came a little over two months before the midterm congressional elections, which will determine which party will control the chambers of the legislature.
Biden criticized his main rival, former head of state Donald Trump, who might run for president again in 2024.
“Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic… And here, in my view, is what is true: MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution. They do not believe in the rule of law. They do not recognize the will of the people.” the president stressed.
According to the President of the United States, Trump’s supporters ” fan the flames of political violence that are a threat to our personal rights, to the pursuit of justice, to the rule of law, to the very soul of this country.”
“So I want to say this plain and simple: There is no place for political violence in America. Period. None. Ever.” Biden stressed.
