BUDAPEST (Realist English). The Hungarian government has supported Poland’s decision, also banning the import of grain and some other agricultural products into its country from the territory of the Ukraine or of the Ukrainian origin, Agriculture Minister Istvan Nagy said.

According to the press service of the ministry, the decision has been made to “protect the interests of the Hungarian farming community.” The head of the department believes that the preservation of imports from the Ukraine can “cause such serious damage to the agriculture of Hungary that it will be necessary to take emergency measures.”

“Ukrainian agriculture works according to methods that are no longer allowed in the European Union, and, as a result, with extremely low production costs, with full opportunities for duty-free and free trade, began exporting to the European market, in addition to grain and oilseeds, a large amount of poultry, eggs and honey, which made it impossible to sell productsv of domestic and Central European farmers,” the Hungarian minister said in a statement.

The restrictions, as in Poland, are temporary and will be in effect until June 30, 2023.
