Iran signals end to retaliatory strikes as foreign minister thanks armed forces

WASHINGTON (Realist English). President Donald Trump announced early Tuesday that Iran and Israel have agreed to a comprehensive ceasefire, signaling the end of a 12-day escalation that brought the region to the brink of broader war.

“Congratulations to all! Israel and Iran have fully agreed to a complete and comprehensive ceasefire (in about six hours, once both sides complete their current, final missions),” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Twelve hours after that, the war will be considered officially over.”

Trump added that “within 24 hours, the world will witness the official end of the 12-day war,” and praised the outcome as a major step away from prolonged conflict. “This war could have lasted for years and destroyed the entire Middle East — but it didn’t, and it never will,” he said.

The announcement follows intense diplomatic efforts, including Qatari mediation that reportedly helped secure Iran’s agreement to halt strikes after its attack on the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. Israel’s agreement came shortly thereafter, according to reports from Reuters and Axios.

No official joint statement from Tehran or Jerusalem has yet been released, but the White House has framed the ceasefire as a major achievement in de-escalating what had become a direct confrontation between two regional powers.

Trump’s framing of the ceasefire as both complete and imminent suggests confidence in behind-the-scenes assurances — but the lack of formal confirmation from Iran and Israel introduces an element of caution. If implemented, the agreement would mark a rare moment of mutual restraint after two weeks of open conflict. The coming hours will show whether the timeline holds — and whether diplomacy can keep both sides from returning to the brink.
