French presidential election: Macron will face Le Pen in the second round

PARIS (Realist English). The current head of state Emmanuel Macron and the leader of the far-right “National Association” Marine Le Pen will take part in the second round of presidential elections in France.

The results of counting 99% of ballots show that 27.6% of voters have voted for Macron while 23.4% have supported Le Pen.

The third place is taken by the leader of the left party “France Unbowed” Jean-Luc Melenchon. He was supported by slightly less than 22% of those who voted.

Right-wing candidate Éric Zemmour  is gaining just over 7% of the vote. He has already called on his voters to vote for Le Pen in the second round.

In the first round of elections, the voter turnout, as predicted by sociologists, turned out to be relatively low. By 17:00 it was 65%. This is almost four and a half percentage points lower than in the 2017 elections (69.42%), and five and a half percentage points lower than in 2012 (70.59%).

The second round of elections will be held on April 24. Macron will try to achieve what no French president has been able to do since Jacques Chirac, namely, to be re-elected for a second term.
