More than 2 thousand British companies continue to do business with Russia

LONDON (Realist English). The total number of Russian commercial companies, whose founders are residents of Britain, is 2,370 legal entities, according to the research of the YouControl center.

It is noted that British subsidiaries in Russia often serve as a cover for international financial flows leading to Russian owners.

British capital in Russia, by the number of controlled companies, is most widely represented in the construction sector — 15.8%, wholesale trade — 11.4% and real estate transactions – 7%. A significant place is occupied by such business areas as transportation and logistics — 6%, IT — 4.2%, food industry — 4.1%, finance 3.5%. Retail trade, business services and management consulting complete the top ten.

At the same time, there are almost five times more Russian companies in Britain than there are British companies in Russia.

“The high concentration of British business in Russia’s megacities reflects the general trend characteristic of raw economies. That is, focusing on the “poles of growth”. Apart from that, companies focus primarily on the service sector,” the study notes.

Having investigated the largest companies in the world included in the list of the American Forbes Global 2000, seven were found to have a head office in Britain and support cooperation with the Russian Federation.

In particular, HSBC Holdings, Unilever, GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca continue business without new investments, while Linde, Legal & General Group, LyondellBasell Industries have partially reduced their activities.

Such large companies from Forbes Global 2000 as Diageo, M&G, CNH Industrial, Rolls-Royce Holdings, JD Sports Fashion have suspended their operations in Russia.

The following well-known brands have completely ceased business or left the Russian market: Vodafone, BP, Imperial Brands, Willis Towers Watson, London Stock Exchange, Compass Group, WPP, Supermarkets J Sainsbury, Mondi, Centrica, Wm Morrison.
