KABUL (Realist English). Britain’s decision to reduce the amount of financial assistance to Afghanistan is not related to London’s critical attitude towards the Taliban* regime, according to the head of the Center for the Study of Afghan Politics Andrei Serenko, citing one of the former senior officials of the Afghan special services.
Serenko’s interlocutor explained that the reduction of aid to Afghanistan from London is due to only one factor — the desire of Britain to maintain and increase support for the regime in Kiev in the confrontation with Russia.:
“Therefore, the Ukrainians are being funded as a priority, including by reducing support for the Afghans.”
He added that “one of the retired British generals said in an interview some time ago that the Taliban regime is most consistent with the realities of Afghanistan.”
* The Taliban movement was recognized as a terrorist organization by the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation on February 14, 2003, and its activities in Russia are prohibited.
