JERUSALEM (Realist English). Israeli officials assess that the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Gen. Mohammad Pakpour, was likely killed in the latest round of strikes carried out in Iran.
Pakpour assumed leadership of the IRGC after his predecessor, Hossein Salami, was killed at the outset of the June 2025 war with Israel.
According to Israeli assessments, Iran’s defense minister and chief of intelligence were also likely killed in the operation. However, these evaluations have not been confirmed by Iranian authorities or by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
Several senior Iranian political and military figures were reportedly targeted in the strikes, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian. The outcome of those strikes remains unclear.
If confirmed, the deaths of top IRGC and defense officials would mark a significant escalation in the conflict and deal a major blow to Iran’s military command structure.
