MOSCOW (Realist English). Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called the Kosovo’s declaration of independence from Serbia in 2008 a violation of international law.
“We think that the unilateral declaration of independence, and this is the opinion of the Spanish government, with all respect to the opinion of the Albanian government, is a violation of international law. This is unacceptable to us with all the respect we have for the Albanian people. This does not mean that we do not support a dialogue with Pristina for the sake of rapprochement with the EU. This is the position of Spain, the Kosovo online edition quotes Sanchez.
In an interview with the Realist Information Agency politician Alexander Sherin assessed the statement of the official Madrid and the situation around Kosovo:
“The Spanish Prime Minister voiced obvious things that are difficult to argue with, both from the point of view of international law, from the point of view of historical justice, and from the point of view of moral values and cultural values of the Serbian people. Kosovo field is a sacred place in the ethnos, in the folklore, in the history of the Serbs. Kosovo is an inseparable part of Serbia.
The multiethnicl Yugoslavia gave different peoples and faiths the opportunity to peacefully coexist on one and the same territory, without remembering who and when came first to that territory.
Kosovo is Serbia, and no one had the right to unilaterally alienate the territory of Serbia on the pretext of self—declaration of the republic. This was the final stage of the destruction of Yugoslavia in order to weaken Russia’s eternal ally — the fraternal people of Serbia. This is a specially launched war under a far—fetched pretext, a war between the United States plus the NATO bloc to destroy Yugoslavia and create quasi-independent states on its territory with an understandable goal – inclusion in NATO.
As of today, the member-countries of the alliance have surrounded the Serbs in order to limit their communication and interaction with Russia. This is not enough for the Americans, they need to destabilize the situation in Serbia itself. Therefore, they created a long—running conflict, an artificial state – the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo, populated mostly by Albanians who have their own state, which is the state of Albania.
And the Serbs have their own state — Serbia. Kosovo is an integral part of Serbia. Such a situation was created so that the Serbs could not calmly develop and build far-reaching relations with Russia.
But the Spanish Prime Minister understands perfectly well that this is absolutely unfair and wrong. Especially since he has a similar problem. This is Catalonia.
Catalonia has much more rights, both historical and legal, to independence from Spain than Kosovo has from Serbia. And if he takes a different position, then those who have already held a referendum in Catalonia and voiced their position will cite Kosovo as an example. Of course, on this analogy, Catalonia and Scotland have every right to declare independence.
Even more rights and grounds than Kosovo has. Therefore, Sanchez took an absolutely correct position, not in the interests of Serbs, Albanians or Kosovo Albanians, but solely in the interests of Spain. He understands perfectly well that in order for him to have reasons and have the moral right to prevent the separation of Catalonia from Spain, Sanchez must publicly voice this position in order in the future to remain consistent in his views.
The President of Kazakhstan understands this, too, who also has very vulnerable issues about the northern territories of Kazakhstan, which are historically Russian. Thanks to the Bolsheviks who cut up national republics, Russians ended up on the territory of Kazakhstan, where they today are being insulted and infringed. Therefore, he prudently made a reservation, just in case, that they would not recognize, as he said, the “quasi-states” of the DPR and the LPR. But Taiwan is China, Kosovo is Serbia, Karabakh is Armenia, and the whole of Ukraine is Russia.”
