YEREVAN (Realist English). On July 18, a few days after the visit of US CIA Director William Burns, the head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergei Naryshkin, arrived in Armenia. He held talks with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

The Director of the SVR expressed readiness to provide any assistance in the creation of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Armenia. At the same time, Naryshkin noted that the issue of creating a separate foreign intelligence service is the competency of the Armenian political leadership.

“The Russian Federation, the Foreign Intelligence Service, in any case, in whatever format we work with our esteemed colleagues and partners, we will provide any methodological assistance, support and will also reliably and consistently interact, as we have done until today, because we have a large amount of common tasks that we must solve”, — he noted.

According to Naryshkin, his visit to Yerevan “is definitely not associated with the arrival of the American colleague here.”

Previously, Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan said that there are plans to create a foreign intelligence agency in Armenia. The Government, together with the political team of the Parliament, is carrying out large-scale reforms in three directions, two of which relate to the reforms of the police, as well as the Ministry of Defense and the armed forces.
