BEIRUT (Realist English). This year, the number of murders in Lebanon has increased by 18%, and suicides — by 8% compared to the same period in 2021. The analysts of the Information International research Center came to such conclusions based on the reports of the General-Directorate of the Internal Security Forces.
The number of murders in July increased by at least 68%, and the number of suicides — by at least 42% compared to July 2021, Al Arabiya reports with reference to Information International.
A sharp surge in crime and theft was recorded in Lebanon last year, mainly due to the economic crisis. In 2021, Information International reported a 212% increase in car thefts, a 266% increase in the total number of thefts and a 101% increase in homicides compared to the first 10 months of 2019, right before the economic crisis worsened.
Last year, Lebanon was recognized as the angriest country in the world by the American company Gallup, which analyzed emotions in more than 100 countries for its global report.
Almost 49% of the Lebanese surveyed experienced anger regularly. This is the highest indicator in the world. The anger of Lebanese citizens can be explained by a number of events, since the country has been experiencing an aggravation of the political and economic crisis since October 2019.
