Medvedev drops ironic forecasts, claims Russian victory is “inevitable” in year-end message

MOSCOW (Realist English). Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, has published a year-end reflection in which he set aside his usual ironic predictions and focused instead on what he described as the main results of the past year.

Medvedev called the year “difficult and very important,” arguing that Russia’s armed forces continue to “crush the enemy,” while the country’s economy has defied Western expectations. He said the Russian rouble strengthened rather than collapsed, presenting this as evidence that external pressure had failed.

According to Medvedev, the key outcome of the year was what he described as the growing recognition of Russia’s inevitable victory. “Now everyone understands the inevitability of our victory. This is the most important result of the year,” he wrote.

A significant portion of the post was devoted to a sharp polemic against an unnamed opponent, whom Medvedev accused of openly calling for violence and large-scale attacks. He argued that such statements were directed not at an individual, but against Russia as a whole and its citizens, and responded with aggressive and deliberately provocative language.

In the final section of the text, Medvedev adopted a sarcastic and grotesque tone, suggesting that after death his opponent should become an object of “scientific study,” likening the individual to exhibits in Russia’s Kunstkamera museum and using exaggerated, fantastical imagery.

He concluded the message with a caustic and insulting New Year’s greeting, timing the publication to coincide with the end of the year. The post adds to Medvedev’s growing reputation for increasingly uncompromising rhetoric, particularly on issues related to the conflict and Russia’s confrontation with the West.
