ISLAMABAD (Realist English). Iran’s top security official Ali Larijani said on Tuesday that expanded cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad is essential for regional peace and stability, calling Pakistan a pivotal actor in shaping security dynamics across South and West Asia.
Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in the Pakistani capital, the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council described Pakistan as “an important country with a privileged position in influencing the region’s security environment.” He said that the “deep and historic” ties between the two nations create a solid foundation for confronting shared challenges.
Larijani is in Islamabad for a two-day visit, during which he will meet senior political and military leaders to advance joint agreements on border security, counterterrorism, regional stability, economic cooperation and issues affecting the broader Islamic world.
Ahead of the trip, Larijani wrote on X that he was traveling to Iran’s “friendly and brotherly” neighbor, noting that Tehran “will not forget” Pakistan’s support during the June U.S.–Israeli attack on Iran. He reiterated that Muslim countries face common threats that demand “coordinated and comprehensive action.”
Tehran and Islamabad have recently vowed to boost bilateral trade from just over $3bn to $10bn by removing structural barriers and strengthening targeted economic planning.
