BEIJING (Realist English). Russian President Vladimir Putin’s four-day trip to China reflects the exceptional closeness of bilateral relations, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
Peskov noted that Putin rarely makes multi-day visits abroad — or even extended domestic inspections — but the length of this visit “shows that the President indeed feels at home in China.” Putin is in Tianjin to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit and will also take part in commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and World War II.
According to Peskov, the visit demonstrates not only the deepening of bilateral cooperation in multiple fields but also the two nations’ joint commitment to preserving the historical memory of their decisive role in the defeat of fascism.
He emphasized that interactions between Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are frequent and warm, with the two leaders addressing each other as “dear friends.” This relationship, he said, allows for broad, constructive discussions across political, economic, cultural, educational and medical cooperation. “They are very satisfied with the current state of economic cooperation and are ready to deepen it further,” Peskov was quoted as saying.
Peskov also highlighted the shared emphasis on historical legacy. “Russia and China made decisive contributions to the victory over fascism. Both countries value this history and aim to pass it on to future generations. We highly appreciate that China attaches such importance to history,” he said.
