TEHRAN (Realist English). Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has emphasized the importance of strategic cooperation between Iran, China, and Russia as a counterbalance to what he described as U.S. unilateralism and Western pressure on the international stage.
In a phone conversation on Wednesday with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, Araghchi said the partnership among the three countries plays a “key role in reinforcing multilateralism” within the United Nations system.
The Iranian diplomat expressed gratitude to Beijing for its “responsible and principled position” in rejecting the Western attempt to trigger the so-called “snapback” mechanism at the UN Security Council — an effort to reimpose sanctions on Iran. He noted that the coordinated stance of Tehran, Moscow, and Beijing had the backing of 121 members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
Araghchi also condemned Israel’s continued destabilizing activities in West Asia, urging the global community to resist what he called the regime’s “hegemonic and warmongering policies” to prevent further escalation across the region.
For his part, Wang Yi reaffirmed the strategic depth of China–Iran relations, highlighting the need for continued coordination within the UN and other multilateral forums. He praised Iran’s peaceful use of nuclear energy and reiterated China’s support for Iran’s nuclear rights under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Both ministers welcomed the outcome of the September meeting between Presidents Ebrahim Raisi and Xi Jinping, expressing confidence that the next session of the High-Level Cooperation Mechanism will accelerate implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership agreements.
Marking the upcoming 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Tehran and Beijing, the two sides agreed to maintain regular contact and deepen bilateral cooperation across political, economic, and security domains in 2026.
