MOSCOW (Realist English). Russia is spending more ammunition than usual trying to confuse the Kiev regime’s air defenses, a U.S. official familiar with the situation said.
In a conversation with CNN, he stressed that the Kremlin carried out larger-scale air attacks simultaneously in several directions, aiming at control centers in Kiev, as well as other important facilities.
According to the American TV channel, this is how Russia is trying to force the regime in Kiev to postpone its counteroffensive, but the American official believes that the Kiev regime was able to withstand the attacks by intercepting a high percentage of missiles and drones through a layered air defense system provided by Western countries.
Large-scale attacks by Russia, according to the interlocutor, may even benefit Kiev because they deplete the stocks of Russian precision-guided munitions.
The air attack on Kiev on the night of May 16 was exceptional in its density: the enemy launched the maximum number of attacking missiles in the shortest period of time. The attack came from the north, south and east. According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, during a missile strike this night, Russia fired 18 missiles of various types of air, sea and land-based missiles at Ukraine.
On the night of May 16, the Russian Armed Forces launched a focused strike with high-precision long-range air and sea-based weapons at the locations of the armed formations of the Kiev regime, as well as ammunition storage sites, weapons and military equipment delivered from Western countries. The target of the strike has been achieved. All assigned objects are hit.
