Alexander Lebed

YEREVAN (Realist English). Celebrating the mournful 33rd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Baku (January 13-20, 1990), we remember that it was the 106th Guards Airborne Tula Red Banner Order of Kutuzov Division under the command of Alexander Lebed that prevented the planned genocide of the Armenian population of that city.

We remember the tragic days of the Armenian Genocide in Sumgait, Baku, Gandzak (before 1991 Kirovabad) and throughout the Azerbaijan SSR. Then, the contemporary Nazis killed and expelled not only Armenians, but also Russians, Greeks, Ukrainians, Jews … In the book of General A.I. Lebed “It’s a shame for the state”, full of civil courage, the events of those years are very vividly and truthfully described.

Now, remembering these terrible days, bitterly realizing that the Russian General A. Lebed, a real officer and patriot, is no longer alive, we pay tribute to the memory of the fallen paratroopers who laid down their heads in Baku, saving tens of thousands of children, old men and women from the brutal crowd, incited by the leaders and the “intelligentsia” of Azerbaijan – whose whole trouble and misfortune regardless of nationality, was that they were not Turks.

It was thanks to the courage and dedication of these Orthodox soldiers that the actions of the Azerbaijani authorities in collusion with the Kremlin aimed at the physical destruction and expulsion of the Christian population from Baku were thwarted. The expulsion took place, but there could have been more victims.

Our descendants will remember that they owe the salvation of their ancestors and their very lives not to those Russian government officials who, inch by inch, handed over territories taken from Armenians to the Turks of Azerbaijan, who sold and are selling weapons of mass destruction prohibited by international conventions to the enemy of Armenia, “Russia’s only strategic ally” – Azerbaijan for the war against us.

Eternal memory and eternal glory to him!

On behalf of Armenians and representatives of other nationalities who fled the international city of Baku before 1990.
