MOSCOW (Realist English). Journalist Sergey Mardan has warned that recent statements by the Baku mini-sultanate about so-called “Western Azerbaijan” underscore the continuation of Azerbaijan’s expansionist policy.
Mardan questioned the logic behind assuming that Azerbaijan’s territorial ambitions were confined to Karabakh and the issue of the “Zangezur corridor.”
“Why did anyone — take Pashinyan, for example — decide that the Azerbaijani irredenta had stopped with Karabakh and the Zangezur corridor? Here are fresh statements, here is the so-called ‘Community of Western Azerbaijan,’ which is demanding a ‘return’ to Armenia. And that is a direct quotation from Aliyev,” Mardan said.
He argued that both official Baku’s rhetoric and the creation of the “Community of Western Azerbaijan,” which lays claim to sovereign Armenian territory, clearly show that Azerbaijan’s territorial demands did not end with the Karabakh war.
According to Mardan, the new demands prove the opposite: Baku’s expansionist agenda continues.
