WASHINGTON (Realist English). A document included in the recently released Epstein files alleges that convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was “trained as a spy” under former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak, according to an unverified FBI report dated October 2020.

The document, classified by the FBI as a report from a confidential human source (CHS), was initially focused on potential “improper domestic or foreign influence over the electoral process in the US” but went on to include a series of broader claims related to Epstein and alleged intelligence activities.

According to the report, the source claimed to have listened in on phone calls between Epstein and Alan Dershowitz, taking notes that were then allegedly relayed to Israel’s foreign intelligence service, Mossad. The source further alleged that conversations involving Epstein led them to believe he had been “co-opted” as a Mossad agent, an assessment they attributed to Barak’s views.

The document also states that the source recalled Dershowitz telling another US attorney that Epstein “belonged to both US and allied intelligence services”. The same source alleged, without providing evidence, that Dershowitz himself had been co-opted by Mossad. None of these claims have been substantiated by official findings or corroborated by independent investigations.

Dershowitz, a long-time associate of Benjamin Netanyahu, has denied wrongdoing in relation to Epstein and has played a role in several high-profile US legal cases, including the defence of Epstein, Harvey Weinstein and former US President Donald Trump.

The source also made a series of additional claims, including allegations that venture capital firm Day One Ventures was involved in technology theft and that its founder, Masha Bucher — a former Epstein publicist — had ties to Russian political networks. The document further suggested longstanding links between the family of Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, and Israel, while alleging “corrupt business practices” by the Kushner family without providing supporting detail.

Other documents released as part of the Epstein files confirm that Epstein and Barak maintained a close and long-standing relationship. Records show Epstein advising Barak on technology investments, discussing consultancy fees for former UK prime minister Tony Blair, and proposing roles for former British minister Peter Mandelson.

Responding to renewed scrutiny, Netanyahu said in a post on X that Epstein’s relationship with Barak did not indicate ties to Israeli intelligence. “It proves the opposite,” Netanyahu wrote, accusing Barak of seeking to undermine Israel’s elected government through cooperation with political opponents.

US authorities have not publicly verified the claims contained in the FBI source report. Legal experts note that CHS documents reflect allegations made by informants and do not constitute established findings of fact.
