MOSCOW (Realist English). Russia’s Federal Security Service (Federal Security Service, FSB) has published video footage showing the extradition to Russia of the man accused of attempting to assassinate a senior Russian military official.
The video shows FSB officers receiving an aircraft that delivered the suspect to Moscow. The man’s face is concealed as he is escorted off the plane and taken away from the airport by security personnel. Additional footage released by the FSB includes surveillance camera recordings from outside and inside the apartment building of Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev, the first deputy head of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces. The footage shows investigators recovering the alleged weapon — a pistol fitted with a silencer — hidden in snow near the scene.
Earlier on Sunday, the FSB said the suspect, Russian citizen Lyubomir Korb, had been detained in the United Arab Emirates and extradited to Russia. According to the security service, two alleged accomplices have also been identified: Viktor Vasin, who was detained in Moscow, and Zinaida Serebritskaya, who is believed to have fled to Ukraine. The FSB said efforts to identify and locate the organisers of the attack are ongoing.
On Friday, Investigative Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko said an unidentified assailant had attempted to shoot Lieutenant General Alexeyev in Moscow. The general was hospitalised following the attack. A criminal case has been opened on charges of attempted murder, under Article 30 and Article 105 of the Criminal Code, as well as illegal trafficking of firearms. The investigation has been placed under the supervision of the Moscow prosecutor’s office.
Russian authorities have not disclosed further details about the motive for the attack, saying the investigation is continuing.
