PARIS (Realist English). On April 24, French President Emmanuel Macron issued a solemn statement to mark the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, calling on the international community to preserve the memory of the victims and continue the pursuit of historical truth and justice.
“The Armenian Genocide began 110 years ago. On this National Day of Remembrance, let us honor all the victims and preserve their memory. In the name of humanity, let us continue to work for Truth and Justice,” Macron wrote on social media.
France officially recognized the Armenian Genocide in 2001. In 2019, April 24 was designated as a national day of remembrance. Macron has consistently reiterated that France will oppose any attempts to deny this historical atrocity, framing it as part of Europe’s collective memory of crimes against humanity.
His message was welcomed in Armenia, where it was seen as a gesture of support amid the country’s deepening diplomatic isolation and escalating regional tensions. In Yerevan, traditional commemorations were held at the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex, attended by officials and citizens alike.
Editorial note. Macron’s reaffirmation of France’s stance on the Genocide strengthens moral pressure on countries that continue to deny the crime. Amid growing pressure from Turkey and Azerbaijan, such acts of solidarity serve not only as a moral gesture but also as a form of strategic support for Armenia.
