WASHINGTON (Realist English). An American F-15 fighter pilot, shot down over Iran in April 2026, revealed shocking details during debriefing: moments before ejecting, he observed dozens of Iranian drones moving synchronously in a formation resembling a jellyfish.

According to the pilot, smaller drones were positioned beneath larger ones, resembling “legs” or “tentacles,” with the entire structure moving as a single entity.

“Several drones linked together and moving as one, with smaller drones beneath the larger ones, like legs. Real alien technology,” the pilot described what he saw, according to a CNN source.

Another source said the pilot characterized the situation as a “minefield of drones” in the air.

Formation Capable of Downing Aircraft

The incident occurred on April 3, 2026, when Iranian air defence forces shot down a US F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet worth $31 million. It was the first loss of a US aircraft over Iran since the conflict began. The pilot ejected and was rescued by special forces within hours.

The second crew member, a weapons systems officer, hid in the Zagros Mountains for more than a day before also being evacuated.

Although the official investigation into the cause of the F-15 crash is still ongoing, two CNN sources said they do not rule out that the “jellyfish-like” drone formation may have enabled Iran to shoot down the American aircraft.

On the day of the incident, Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya command announced that it had used a “new air defence system” that struck the fighter jet, three drones and two cruise missiles.

US Intelligence Puzzled

The pilot’s account has sparked fierce debate within the US intelligence community.

Some analysts believe Iran demonstrated a new, previously unknown technology that military experts call “one‑to‑many meshed networking” — the ability of a single operator to control multiple drones simultaneously.

According to sources, US intelligence had not previously assessed Iran as possessing such technology.

“Are you sure you saw what you say you saw?” the pilot was asked during debriefing, according to one source. Intelligence doubts are linked to the fact that the pilot suffered a concussion during ejection. Moreover, this was the second time he had been shot down during the war with Iran: he had previously been involved in a “friendly fire” incident involving Kuwaiti forces.

At the same time, independent sources indicate that Iran may have received assistance in developing the drones from China and Russia, which are believed to possess similar capabilities.

If the pilot’s testimony is confirmed, it would be an alarming signal of a qualitative leap in Iranian drone technology.

The war between the US and Iran has officially entered a 60‑day ceasefire regime.

Negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme and the future of the Strait of Hormuz continue with Pakistan and Qatar acting as mediators.
