More than 15 thousand millionaires may leave Russia in 2022

According to the London-based consulting company Henley Global Citizens Report, more than 15 thousand millionaires may leave Russia this year. This is three times more than in 2021.

LONDON (Realist English). This year, more than 15 thousand millionaires may leave Russia due to the special operation in the Ukraine and the anti-Russian sanctions imposed, according to a report by the London-based consulting company Henley Global Citizens Report. This is three times more than in 2021. Then 5.5 thousand millionaires left the country.

“Affluent individuals have been emigrating from Russia in steadily rising numbers every year over the past decade, an early warning sign of the current problems the country is facing,” Amoils added. “Historically, major country collapses have usually been preceded by an acceleration in emigration of wealthy people, who are often the first to leave as they have the means to do so,” wrote Andrew Amoils, the head of research at New World Wealth, which worked on the report with London-based Henley & Partners, a residency and citizenship advisory firm.

The consulting firm’s estimates are based on information, including official data on immigration and real estate purchases by millionaires.

Russia was hit with sweeping sanctions after it began its special military operation in the Ukraine on February 24, prompting some of its wealthiest people to leave. Some oligarchs have fled to Dubai, where they have been snapping up real estate.
