YEREVAN (Realist English). Armenia has not abandoned the idea of negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh in the format of the OSCE Minsk Group, but cannot passively wait for the actions of the co-chairs and therefore begins bilateral contacts with Azerbaijan, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in parliament on April 13.
According to him, Yerevan does not abandon the idea of holding peace talks under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group:
“We have not abandoned this idea, we defend this idea, but you also know that because of the events in the Ukraine, the relations within the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairmanship are extremely tense. This tensions began back in 2011 after the events in Syria, which inevitably affected our regional developments.”
Realist Information Agency Editor-in-Chief Sarkis Tsaturyan commented on the statements made in the Armenian Parliament:
“Pashinyan’s speech in parliament is another blow to the OSCE Minsk Group. His purpose is obvious: Moscow needs a trialog with Washington and Paris on Artsakh, within which the Kremlin could discuss other issues more important to itself, but the Americans and the French are not in a hurry to resume communication with the Russians against the backdrop of ongoing hostilities in the Ukraine.
Earlier, the Minsk Group was attacked by Lavrov, and now they decided to involve the Armenian Prime Minister. It is noteworthy that Pashinyan makes such sorties every time Moscow does not have relations with Western capitals.
Repeating Ter-Petrosyan‘s fake mantras that the whole world allegedly stands on the side of Baku and Ankara, demanding the surrender of Artsakh and “recognition of the territorial integrity” of Azerbaijan and Turkey, Pashinyan finally discredits Armenia in the diplomatic arena.
The curators of the Armenian Prime Minister are counting on this: with the hands of Armenians, to deprive Armenia and Artsakh of the possibility of any reunification in the future. Everything is being done to ensure that the French and the Americans give up on Armenian interests. Hence the various provocations in Stepanakert related to the symbols of the Russian special operation. They know how to poke the bear!
Tell Pashinyan already not to embarrass himself like that. Just in 2020, the French parliament did more for the recognition of Artsakh (within the borders of 1994!) than all Armenian and Russian deputies in thirty years. What kind of “territorial integrity” of Azerbaijan is he talking about? Yes, Macron has not yet approved the parliament’s decision on the recognition of Artsakh, but who in Yerevan or Moscow has done at least as much? Even Aliyev, in his numerous interviews, said directly that the West, referring to France and the United States, is on the Armenian side in the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. Who does Pashinyan take us all for?!”
Since 1992, negotiations on a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict have been conducted within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. Its co-chairs are the United States, Russia and France. Besides them, the Minsk Group includes Belarus, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Finland and Sweden, as well as Armenia and Azerbaijan.
