MOSCOW (Realist English). Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev believes that the destructive actions of the United States, Great Britain and their allies have led to the termination of the Russian-Ukrainian dialogue.
“Russia is interested in reaching political and diplomatic agreements as soon as possible that would allow the cessation of hostilities [in Ukraine]. However, negotiations between Moscow and Kiev are currently frozen by the Ukrainian side. It was the destructive actions of the United States, Britain and their allies that led to the termination of the Russian-Ukrainian dialogue,” he stressed in his opening speech at the 12th meeting of high representatives of the BRICS states in charge of security issues.
According to him, “westerners expect to put pressure on Moscow by continuing to increase arms supplies to Ukraine and increase sanctions pressure.”
“Such actions are counterproductive. They only artificially prolong the conflict, and also lead to additional human casualties and destruction,” Patrushev said.
The Secretary of the Security Council reminded that all these years Russia had tried in vain to reach the United States and NATO, “warned against encouraging Kiev’s aspirations to join the alliance, against pumping up the country with weapons, encouraging militaristic, Nazi-Russophobic sentiments of the Kiev regime”:
“Washington and London acted in a similar way before the outbreak of World War II, preferring not to notice Hitler’s aggressive plans and even indulging them in the hope of directing the Nazi regime against Moscow, which ultimately led to the loss of tens of millions of lives.”
On June 15, the 12th meeting of high representatives of the BRICS countries in charge of security issues was held via video link under the chairmanship of the Chinese side. Its participants discussed current challenges and threats to national and international security at the present stage, as well as promising areas of cooperation between the countries of the association.
Special attention is paid to the issues of countering the illegal distribution of drugs, cooperation on the anti-corruption track, coordination of countries on the use of space exclusively for peaceful purposes, joint efforts to prevent energy and food crises, combating epidemics and preventing military biological experiments.
