MOSCOW (Realist English). Russia’s Commission on Scientific and Technological Development (STR) has approved a draft strategy for the country’s rehabilitation industry through 2030, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko announced following a commission meeting in Moscow on September 23.
The strategy, endorsed with conditions to incorporate expert feedback, aims to create a sustainable framework for rehabilitation technologies by combining fundamental science, workforce training, industrial production and logistics. Chernyshenko said the plan is grounded in presidential decrees and government directives, and will “advance Russia’s national interests in rehabilitation technologies, science, training and manufacturing.”
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ekaterina Priezzheva noted that the draft had been circulated to more than 230 organizations and reviewed by leading enterprises. Russian Academy of Sciences President Gennady Krasnikov added that the plan prioritizes advanced research in neurointerfaces, artificial intelligence, biocompatible materials and robotics, and fosters integration between medical institutions and top scientific organizations.
Veronika Skvortsova, head of Russia’s Federal Medical-Biological Agency, presented examples of applied innovations, including biocompatible implants, new methods to address phantom pain, sensory feedback systems for prosthetics and bionic limb technologies. These are currently undergoing trials with patients.
The commission also reviewed the 2024 report on Russia’s long-term Fundamental Research Program. Adjustments were introduced to align performance indicators with the national strategy for scientific and technological development.
