Mishustin urges Russian electronics sector to “cut corners” for faster breakthroughs

SOCHI (Realist English). Russia’s electronics industry should not simply follow the technological path of global leaders but seek unconventional solutions to accelerate progress, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said at the Microelectronics 2025 forum.

“Dependence on foreign technologies still remains, and there is a long way ahead to achieving full sovereignty in microelectronics,” Mishustin said. “But if we always move strictly behind the leading countries, repeating their steps, we are unlikely to catch up quickly. For significant progress, we need extraordinary ideas and solutions that can help us, as they say, ‘cut corners’ where possible.”

According to the prime minister, institutions for development and the Russian Academy of Sciences must play a key role in this approach. Around ₽10 billion has already been allocated for “breakthrough projects.” Mishustin stressed the importance of strengthening coordination between state institutions and the Academy to raise the efficiency of research and development.

The Microelectronics 2025 forum, which runs from 21 to 27 September at the Sirius University of Science and Technology, has gathered more than 3,500 specialists from 1,000 companies and organizations. The program includes over 40 business sessions and a scientific conference featuring more than 1,000 technical presentations on electronic component base development, photonic quantum technologies, and applications of artificial intelligence.

More than 120 companies are showcasing their innovations at the forum’s 2,000-square-meter exhibition zone.
